Knee pain is most common in women. This is because women have a larger pelvis than men and hence kneecap is more angled than men. This becomes the main cause for knee pain and injuries. The shape of the women body also acts as an important factor. Wearing of high heels also results in knee injuries. It is also said that knee injuries may have an increased impact on women because of hormones. Arthritis is also plays an important role in knee pain usually it is seen in older women but if it in the genes it could affect women at a very early stage.

Other cause for knee pain may be overuse of the joint, especially in the case of athletes. Torn meniscus and ligament also causes severe knee pain. Chondromalacia patella known as the runners’ knee syndrome also causes severe knee pain. It is the result of a damaged cartilage like that in the arthritis. But it is different than arthritis in the manner that it is considered to be self-repairing disease.
