Knees Arthritis

Swelling or inflammation of joints is termed as arthritis. It is a condition where the cartilage between the joint gets damaged. This damage may be there because of the degeneration process taking place in tissues or may be due to some injury. Knees arthritis is the most prevalent form of arthritis present all over the world, since it is the largest joint of our body and all the body weight is balanced by the knees. Hence knees are the most susceptible to arthritis.
Knees arthritis can be of three types the most common is osteoarthritis caused due to wear and tear of the cartilage. Rheumatoid arthritis caused doe to damage to the cartilage and can occur at any age. Post traumatic arthritis which occurs due to injury to the knee and it may occur after many years of injury. In any of the above case the symptoms are the same swelling in the joint, the joint becomes stiff resulting in pain while walking, climbing stairs, etc.
Knees arthritis due to old age cannot be prevented but they could be delayed by adopting a proper lifestyle. Exercise is the guide to healthy lifestyle. We have moved to a world which makes us have a sedentary lifestyle. This lifestyle helps us in achieving the materialistic goals we set for us but leaves us inactive for most part of our lives. Thus our muscle weakens down and there is risk of developing arthritis and other problems. Obesity is the second and a major cause of knees arthritis. Knees bear the body weight the more it is the more risky it is for the knee joint.
At the early stage of arthritis it could be managed with some medications, joint injections and modification of the lifestyle. However at stages where the normal activities are limited by the arthritis, surgery is the option left for pain relief. These surgeries may be a partial or total knee replacement. These surgeries help in arthritis cure but cannot be bring back the joint at its original condition.
With the new medications coming up for this now very common condition i.e. knees arthritis there are a number of options available to reduce the joint pains. Doctors are performing researches on acupuncture therapy, magnetic therapy which focuses on use of magnets to reduce the pain. But what actually helps depend upon the condition of the knee and stage of the arthritis.
Knees arthritis can be very painful. It can disable a person to do his work on his own. The person suffering from knee pain cannot even walk by himself. It is very important for a person to recognize the symptoms of arthritis. Any pain or swelling in the joints or even in fingers should never be ignored. Since arthritis pain fluctuates with the weather one should be cautious regarding it and should seek immediate medical attention. There is no better cure than prevention, aging cannot be prevented or delayed but adopting a healthy lifestyle protects the body and increases the life of the body parts.
